My fave records of 2012 so far

Well, the year's half over and I can feel the voracious music consumer + 'list nerd' parts of my personality coming to the fore. The following records have given me great pleasure so far in 2012, in no particular order...

First Aid Kit - 'The Lion's Roar'
Dirty Three - 'Toward the Low Sun'
Chairlift - 'Something'
Sharon Van Etten - 'Tramp'
Bowerbirds - 'The Clearing'
Father John Misty - 'Fear Fun'
Gaz Coombes - 'Hear Come the Bombs'
James Thomson - 'James Thomson'
Jonathan Boulet - 'We Keep the Beat...'
The Tallest Man on Earth - 'There's No Leaving Now'
Dirty Projectors - 'Swing Lo Magellan'
Sigur Ros - 'Valtari'

Discarded album titles

I thought I'd share a bunch of titles that I considered for my album but ultimately decided against. Why do this? Well, sometimes you gotta purge! Also, it's currently 5am in my part of the world and a head cold is keeping me awake. I am beyond clogged up. It feels like the Kardashians have taken up residence in my sinuses. So here you go...

Discarded album titles

Single Frames
Cythera
Nostalgia for a Time I Never Lived In
A Walk Down to the Railroad
The Eavesdrop
18th Century Flight

While I'm here, this happened yesterday - http://whothehell.net/archives/14533 - nice!

And I should add that if you've been digging 'Washed Ashore', feel free to leave me a review over here - http://triplejunearthed.com/edwarddeer

Til next time!

My new single!

Excited to announce that the first single from my forthcoming debut album can now be streamed online. Here's the link - http://soundcloud.com/edwarddeer/washed-ashore

It'll be up on iTunes etc sometime next week. A few people have been asking about the lyrics, so here they are...

Washed Ashore

With open arms, we criticise
Then pass the blame and apologise
Go read a book, or step outside
We do our best to run and hide.

Pigs might fly and a comet could break the sky
But I could never doubt you
To try and save my pride
To stem the tide
To compromise.

We wash ashore, our bodies tired
Then we evolve and multiply
I’ll clean the stove, you stoke the fire
We don’t complain, we just perspire.

Hell might freeze, and the earth could fall to its knees
But I could never doubt you
To try and save my pride
To stem the tide
To compromise.

An update

I know this blog has been lying dormant as of late, but I've finally finished my record so I'll be updating pretty regularly from now on. I'm 90% sure that my album will be called '18th Century Flight' and I'm 100% sure that it's set for Australian release this September through Laughing Outlaw Records. I'll be uploading a new single called 'Washed Ashore' within the next week or so. Stay tuned...!
