Fave records of 2012

Recently I was asked by the blog 'Timber and Steel' to write a coupla lines about my favourite record of 2012. I found it really tough to choose this year. Last year it was definitely Kurt Vile's 'Smoke Ring for My Halo', the year before it was 'High Violet' by The National. Eventually, after much deliberation, I picked 'Something' by Chairlift...

Check out my piece here, alongside pieces from folks like Sarah Blasko, Bob Evans, Jen Cloher, Gossling, Husky, Piers Twomey, Achoo! Bless You and a stack more.

And below is a list of 20 albums that I loved this year. So if you're feeling like a shopping spree, you should hop on iTunes or get yer butt to a record store, buy my record (ha!) and buy these ;-P

In no particular order:

Bat For Lashes - 'The Haunted Man'
First Aid Kit - 'The Lion's Roar'
Tame Impala - 'Lonerism'
Grizzly Bear - 'Shields'
Jens Lekman - 'I Know What Love Isn't'
Divine Fits - 'A Thing Called Divine Fits'
Frank Ocean - 'Channel Orange'
Richard Hawley - 'Standing at the Sky's Edge'
Hot Chip - 'In Our Heads'
Cat Power - 'Sun'
Something for Kate - 'Leave Your Soul to Science'
The Tallest Man on Earth - 'There's No Leaving Now'
Chairlift - 'Something'
Sharon Van Etten - 'Tramp'
Father John Misty - 'Fear Fun'
Jonathan Boulet - 'We Keep the Beat...'
Dirty Projectors - 'Swing Lo Magellan'
Sigur Ros - 'Valtari'
The Presets - 'Pacifica'
Dirty Three - 'Toward the Low Sun'

There are also a few records I had recommended to me that I haven't had the chance to listen to properly yet. Including the newies by Diiv, Melody's Echo Chamber, Ariel Pink, Grand Salvo, Lotus Plaza and Lambchop.

A lotta good music this year!!

Happy holidays,
Ed
